In order to use a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) configuration with Windows, specific drivers can be needed. When you manually install Windows on the RAID, it is necessary to load the drivers during the installation.

During a manual installation of Windows XP, the drivers need to be available on a floppy drive. In case your system is not equipped with a floppy disk drive, you can use a USB floppy disk drive.
SOLUTION
First, retrieve the RAID or AHCI drivers from the Acer website:
- Visit the Drivers and Manuals section of the Acer support website.
- Enter your Serial Number/SNID or search for your product by Model.
- Select Driver.
- Click the Download link for the file you want to download.
- Right-click the downloaded ZIP-file and then click Extract All Files. Double-click the folder that has the same name as the downloaded file.
- Copy the extracted files to the floppy drive. There will be files with INF, CAT and SYS extensions, and a file called txtsetup.oem.
Next, load the drivers during the Windows XP installation:
- In case you use a USB floppy drive, connect it before powering on the system.
- Boot the system from the Windows XP installation CD. For more information about how to perform this, please visit our knowledge base article Start up from CD or DVD.
- On the blue introduction screen for Windows Setup, wait until the message Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver shows at the bottom of the screen. Then press the F6 key repeatedly.
- Setup will temporarily continue loading drivers. You will then be prompted to specify additional disk controllers. Press the S key to Specify Additional Device.
- When you are prompted to insert the floppy into the floppy drive, insert the floppy and press the ENTER key.
- From the list of available drivers, select the Windows XP drivers for your RAID or AHCI controller, and press ENTER.
- The drivers will be loaded, and the drives or RAID configurations will now be available as target locations to install Windows XP.
MORE INFORMATION
These steps are necessary only during a manual installation using your own installation media. When using the Acer recovery software, the RAID will be supported if the system was originally sold with a RAID configuration enabled. Please note that Acer provides support only on devices manufactured or shipped by Acer, and on pre-installed operating systems.
Dell Raid Controller Driver
Hi there all,
we've got a HP Compaq dc5750, 160 GB SATA-HDD, Vista Business, Recovery CD
only.
The aim is to install a second (identical) hard drive and use the onboard
raid controller (ATI RAID) for this.
After some changes in BIOS (HDD from SATA to RAID and RAID Controller as
Boot Device) we come to Vista's Boot Screen and then system hangs. Which
seems logical because we did not installed the raid driver yet (but have it
on floppy).
I can remeber in good old Win2K days you only had to press F6 for choosing
your RAID driver and then installed it from Floppy.
How to do this in Vista?
Thanx alot!
